North Shore Radio Project is a manifestation of many years of listening to commercial radio and generally finding it to be crap. Then, straying below 90MHz on the FM dial, discovering interesting college radio programming and community radio. Thats where I found a place to hang out. There were shows that defied description and music that I never heard before. The CD library (and LP library) grew after hearing this new music. On rare occasions, I have stumbled on pirate FM stations as well and spent many hours listening to rough, funny, and uncensored radio interspersed with techno, hardcore punk, speed metal, dub, sound experiments, etc. These stations would appear, be around for a while, then blink out or move to another location/frequency if they were sussed. Many times, they would simply vanish - never to be heard from again. The impression remained tho.... Anyway, listening to these audio/rf temporary autonmous zones lead to doing audio experimenting and using the web as the medium of choice. There is no fixed agenda for the NSRP shows - found thoughts, current world foolishness, or maybe a mix of old time country tunes and death metal. Found sounds from the South Loop L Tracks at 1am, audio hikes around the city, recording calculators run amok. Dunno. BTW, I do intend to spin some 'regular' music shows including other music interest: Big Band, BeBop Jazz, Prog and Space Rock, Rockabilly and Country Gospel, Industrial and Dark Ambient, etc, etc.
